WORDCRAFT OF OREGON

DAVID MEMMOTT WILL BE TAKING A ONE YEAR HIATUS FROM SPRING 2013 UNTIL SPRING 2014 IN ORDER TO WORK ON SOME OF HIS OWN WRITING PROJECTS. OUR CRYSTAL BALL IS A BIT CLOUDY RIGHT NOW REGARDING THE PROSPECTS OF CONTINUING THE PRESS. IF WE CONTINUE, IT WILL BE WITH CHANGES.

Wordcraft of Oregon was founded in 1988 as an outgrowth of Ice River Magazine, a journal of the fantastic in literature. Wordcraft's Speculative Writers Series published twenty-five books by visionary authors whose work attracted much attention and critical acclaim. With its relaunch in 2006, Wordcraft of Oregon, LLC, broadened its range of literary interest, no longer limited to speculative work, but still looking for the rare gem that has helped define this literary small press.

"Wordcraft of Oregon is one of the more underrated presses not only for science fiction, but of literature in general."

— Rain Taxi Online, Fall 2003

"Wordcraft is doing exactly what a small/alternative press should be doing: putting into print literate, innovative fiction that falls outside the commercial norm, from writers who are trying interesting things in intelligent ways."

—Steve Moore, Dalkey Archive Press

Wordcraft of Oregon, LLC, was relaunchedin 2006 after a three-year hiatus believing a broad range of literature could be offered affordably and competitively. Our various editions, from first trade paperbacks, in print editions of 500–1500 copies, to smaller locally-produced in-house saddle-stitched and perfectbound editions, allowed us to test an audience with new voices while providing more established writers with an alternative to the commercial houses. In 2008, the press shifted to Print on Demand technology for printing of books and in 2012 has narrowed its publishing interests to Oregon and Northwest poets, with occasional prose books by invitation only.
